Have we kept the door open too long?
As the opportunities became the norm,
While we waited for one
to stop stare smile
and say "knock knock".

Having been the victim of 2 thefts in last three months and having suffered a damage of 20k INR from my small pocket not to mention the agony of having to put up with corrupt officials of the police and jurisdiction departments of our country and to top it all to swallow all that anger welling up, an act very uncharacteristic of me as those who know me will confirm, I feel I have the right to at least vent it out here.
For one month, the rising sun, the newspaper boys, the 5 feet thick dust raised by the brooms of the sweepers only to settle down behind their not so ignorant backs, found me driving my arse Monday to Saturday to the Police station. Here I'd be greeted by yawning officials barely in their towels around their waists following the age old practice of Daatun. They'd just stare at the lad in formal attire with flawlessly polished black shoes, who'd unrelentingly turn up everyday for an appointment with the Station incharge who would never turn up at time.
Consequently I'd get late for office but still I would come back after office to try my luck again but it didnt take me less than a week to get my first face to face.
Keeping up with the pace it took me a month to get a FIR for the theft, not to inconvenience any of those noble men to make acquaintance with the thieves, but just to apply for the nominal cover that my car insurance would get me. Then there were another ten days of the insurance company investigator taking pics of the car and making his reports to give the final go ahead to the service station to make the necessary replacements which surprisingly but not really took them a week.
This was followed by a two month wait period after which a Not Recoverable Certificate is issued by the court for furthering the insurance claim. But this wasnt before I was summoned by the the thanedar at the local police post who asked for half the insurance amount to further my case in the court, whom I eventually decided to ignore, a Bastard that he was. And it turned out I was right, he did not have it in his hands after all to mess with my case.
So I am summoned by court after 45 days, only to find myself at the mercy of more scavangers whom I had to eventually bribe but not before I bargained their price down to a fifth of what they had initially demanded. At the end of the day I did get that damned letter..
And so it was that my agonizing ordeal came to an end...
Or wait, did I say I was robbed twice?!!. O yeah, forgot to tell you, I suffered the same theft within a week of getting the afore mentioned letter, not even having yet made a claim with the insurance company. Some bad luck, yeah?
P.S.- I did not visit my old friends from the police station this time.
